Buy, build or commission?

Having finally taken the decision to make our dream a reality, we then had to try and figure out how! This one has taken some time and deliberation. We’ve watched several hours of Nate Murphy videos on YouTube, thinking we might be able to do the conversion ourselves. But between work and our existing project, we decided that for now, as much as we would like to, it was probably not the most sensible way to proceed, plus the gas installation scares the bejesus out of us!!

We’ve spent years dipping in and out of eBay and Quirky Campers, watching as cute and interesting campers came and went. Lots of them way out of our budget and often, not being quite the right van for us. So this also turned out to not be the way we went this time.

After many hours on the Quirky camper website, we spotted their recommended independent van conversion companies and started to explore the idea of commissioning our own conversion. This way seemed to tick lots of boxes, partnering with someone with experience would give us the peace of mind things like electrics and gas were all safe and sorted, but also giving us the chance to collaborate on the design, so the layout and interior work for us and that we can also put our own stamp on the aesthetic of the van too.

There are many talented people converting vans these days, some of the creative ways they use the small space is incredible. We have now decided to go this route and excitingly we’ve just put down a deposit with our chosen partners, we'll tell you more about them in our next update!!
