We’ve been a little quiet here, with everything going on and getting packed up and back to the UK, our blog has taken a bit of a back seat. Lucky for us however, Wandering Wheels have been hard at work making so much progress with the van conversion! We definitely made the right decision to partner with someone this time, it’s incredible to think that very soon we’ll have a fully converted camper van, it would never have happened in this time frame if we’d attempted this ourselves and we‘re so excited!
We’ve been talking with and getting updates from Matt & Naomi throughout the process. Each time they WhatsApp with pics, we both rush to look at our phones to check out the latest changes, it’s going to be very weird to see it real life completely transformed!
As you know from our previous blog post, when we picked up the van, it was covered in auto carpet which we stripped ourselves. This left us with a furry sticky mess on the walls, luckily most of the wood panels were to be removed and a lot of the paintwork, Wandering wheels cleverly disguised behind natural hessian fabric. So we delivered the van in this state…
Matt quickly set to work after we delivered the van in January, removing the floor which once had additional bench seats attached to it, clearing out the old panels and getting the insulation into the floor and walls! He even snuck in the first roof light incredibly quickly!
Once that fundamental work was completed, we then got the next pic which suddenly made everything very real, instantly it looks like we have a converted van rather than a blue hairy machine monster! The plan for the van as you’ll have seen in our post about the design is to keep things inspired by nature and where we can we want to be able to re'use things or material, so the natural wood vibe is staying and being enhanced by some bold, wild life inspired fabrics!
